Built for the problems nobody else wants

"I'm most useful when the reporting is broken, the systems are a patchwork, and leadership needs someone who can orient quickly and start moving."

I'm Dan Oswald, a finance and operations leader with over 20 years of experience working across construction, telecommunications, financial services, fintech, and public-company environments.

My career has been defined by a recurring pattern: organizations in transition, growing faster than their infrastructure, recovering from operational drift, or navigating a change in ownership, bring me in to create order and build the systems that let them move forward.

I started at Countrywide Financial as part of the original team that launched the Reverse Mortgage business, managing finance and reporting for a business unit that grew from concept to significant scale. That experience, building from scratch inside a large institution, shaped how I think about infrastructure, controls, and what it actually takes to make reporting trustworthy.

Over the next two decades I moved across corporate finance, FP&A, and executive leadership, at Prospect Mortgage, through Oswald Consulting, and most recently as Director of Finance & Operations at Cable Services Co. Each role deepened the same core capability: making complex organizations legible and scalable.

Principles I bring into every engagement

  • 01
Orient fast, act deliberately I learn organizations quickly, their reporting, their people, their informal logic. Then I move. Not before.
  • 02
Fix the root, not the symptom Most financial and operational problems are structural. I solve the underlying issue rather than building workarounds that compound over time.
  • 03
Make leadership capable, not dependent My job is to build systems and processes that work when I'm not in the room. I don't create dependency, I build capability.
  • 04
Finance, operations, and technology are one problem The finance leader who doesn't understand systems, and the IT leader who doesn't understand the business, both create expensive gaps. I sit at that intersection by design.
  • 05
Calm is a competitive advantage Messy situations require steady hands. I don't add urgency to a room that already has too much of it.
